GENESIS
On the basis of the recommendations of All India Rural Credit Survey Committee, constituted by RBI in 1953, a three-tier setup for the training of the cooperative personnel, functioning at various levels was established. Under the three-tier setup for the training, it had been planned that National Institute of Cooperative Management will take care of the training needs of the senior level personnel of cooperatives of the country. The Institutes of Cooperative Management will cater to the training needs of the middle level functionaries of cooperatives and the Junior Training Centres will cater to the training requirements of the other staff of cooperatives.
Under the arrangement mentioned above, the National Council for Cooperative Training was organized at the national level with responsibility for organizing training programmes for Human Resource Development in the cooperative sector. The Council undertakes its activities through the wide network of its 20 institutions spread in different parts of the country, comprising of Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management, Pune, and Regional Institutes of Cooperative Management (5) and Institutes of Cooperative Management (14) located in different parts of the country.
HISTORY
The institute is one of the oldest Cooperative training institutes in the country. It was previously called as Cooperative Training College, and was situated at Kota. It was established in 1956, under the ageis of the Central Committee for Cooperative Training constituted by the Reserve Bank of India.
The institute was shifted from Kota to Jaipur in the year 1977. Earlier the institute was functioning in a rented building at Thawaria House, Bani Park, Jaipur. In 1990 the college shifted to its own campus at Jhalana Doongri. In 1992 the college was renamed as Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM).
This institute is one of the training institutes of National Council of Cooperative Training, New Delhi (An Autonomous society promoted by Ministry of Cooperation, Govt. of India).
The Institute is in existence for more than 50 years catering to the training, research and consultancy needs of cooperative and allied sectors.
TRAINING PROGRAMMES
The institute offers a wide range of programmers covering different segments of cooperative movement like Credit and Banking, Urban Banking, Long-Term Finance, Marketing and Processing, Industrial, Consumer, Handloom, Housing, Dairy, Labor, Forest, Fishermen Cooperatives, LAMPS, Cooperative Education and Training. Apart from General Management Courses it offers courses on Cooperative Accounts and Audit, Statistics, Cooperative Law, Practice and Procedures and other connected laws.
The institute conducts three long duration Diploma Courses viz. Higher Diploma in Cooperative Management, Diploma in Cooperative Audit & Diploma Programme in Management of Industrial Cooperatives. Besides this the institute also conducts a large number of need based short duration management development programmers as well as Leadership Development programmers.This Institute is accredited by C-PEC Lucknow.
